Responsibilities
The UNIX Systems Administrator contributes as a member of the Our
Client IT department and is responsible for the Information Technology
infrastructure at the IDC (India Development Center) including
hardware/software support of UNIX servers & storage devices including
SUN, HP, & Net App filer support.
The UNIX System Admin will also provide off-hours support for US based
UNIX servers and storage devices.
Duties
Based in Bangalore, India, the UNIX Systems Administrator is
responsible for maintaining the Information Technology infrastructure
for the IDC. Responsibilities include providing internal Helpdesk
support to Our Client's employees based in Bangalore and working on IT
infrastructure projects either independently or in conjunction with
globally based IT personnel. This support will be mainly done from Our
Client's location in Bangalore. Occasional travel to Our Client's
corporate headquarters or other locations may be required.
The primary duties of the UNIX Administrator are as follows:
Configures, installs, and maintains Solaris, Linux and HP-UX servers
and system applications including Send mail, Bind, SSH, TCP/IP and NFS
in a 24/7 datacenter environment.
Develops and maintains comprehensive documentation for multiple environments.
Makes recommendations on system and process changes as needed.
Writes Perl and Shell scripts as needed.
Troubleshoots miscellaneous network issues.
Works on Information Technology infrastructure development projects as
a project team member.
Be a member of a rotating and on-call staff schedule.
Liaise with Engineering Ops for support of systems outside the
standard IT infrastructure.
Perform basic DBA activities

Skills / Requirements
BS in Computer Science/Information Systems/MIS, or equivalent degree,
5 or more years of relevant experience in a structured technical
environment.
Must have a well-rounded technical background with 5 or more years
experience in supporting Solaris, Linux and HP-UX in a corporate
environment.
Good knowledge of popular web servers (web logic, web sphere, tomcat)
are required
Basic DBA experience required. Should have worked on more than one
database technologies
Must have excellent customer service skills and be an effective communicator.
Must be able to work with limited supervision and exercise independent
judgment in problem solving.
Excellent analytical, negotiation and problem-solving abilities
